2032 Coaches

Ryan Lanigan
Ryan Lanigan (Ronkonkoma, NY) was hired as first head coach of the Sage men’s lacrosse program in the summer of 2018. Russell Sage College’s lacrosse team wrapped their first varsity season in 2019 under the direction of Lanigan, as the Gators produced a mark of 8-9 overall
Lanigan arrived at Sage after spending two seasons at Misericordia University (Dallas, PA) and helped to guide the Cougars to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2017 after an impressive 7-0 showing in the Freedom Conference. A 2014 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, Lanigan became the first USILA All-American in the program’s history after garnering a spot on the third team as a senior long stick midfielder as a senior.
Prior to joining the coaching staff at Misericordia, Lanigan was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Assumption College. During his only season, the team set a program record with nine wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Playoffs for the second time in program history.
As a college student-athlete, he was a defensive leader for the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen throughout his career, which spanned from 2011-2014. The defender led the Dutchmen in ground balls and caused turnovers his final two years in the Blue and White, and holds the career mark for most ground balls (356) and caused turnovers (208). A USILA All-American, the first in the program's history, and an All-Commonwealth Conference First Team selection, Lanigan was a team captain his junior and senior seasons with the Dutchmen.

Joe Hayes
Joe Hayes is no stranger when it comes to Upstate NY lacrosse. He was the assistant at Siena College from 2000-2004. He then went across the river to Rensselear Polytechnic Institute where he was the assistant from 2004-2006. From there, Hayes started his career at Hudson Valley Community College where he was the assistant from 2007-2009 and was awarded the head coaching job from 2009-2013. During his time at HVCC his teams were back to back Mountain Valley Conference Champions in 2009-10. In 2010 Hayes was the first Hudson Valley Coach to beat a Herkimer team for an Mountain Valley Conference Championship, also make a regional final four appearance in the same year in over a decade. Also, in 2010 Hayes was the Mountain Valley Coach of the Year. After his collegiate coaching career, Hayes decided to take his coaching talents to Saratoga Springs High School. He was the assistant from 2014-2015 and from 2015 to 2020 he was the head coach. He is currently the assistant coach for Ballston Spa High School.
Hayes graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1994 where he played attack and faced-off. He then played at Hudson Valley Community College from 1994-1997 and onto Limestone College from 1997-1999. He has also coached and played internationally for the Altona Lacrosse Club in Australia from 1999-2000.
